Super Girl

“Dear Macy’s, You are like a superhero to my school because we haven’t had RIF in a long, long time, but because of you we got it this year.” — Katie, 3rd grade

“Dear Macy’s, When I first got a free book, I felt so happy, and I wanted to thank whoever let it happen. And now I’m thanking YOU!” — Juliana, 4th grade

“Dear Macy’s, Some of the books I liked and some of the books I loved. Thank you!” — Zachory, 3rd grade

Mac People Unite

Jun

Apple is making headlines this week and we just so happen to have a signed copy of *the* handbook for folks making the switch to a Mac. Clearly, a giveaway is in order. Here’s the scoop.

We met up last week with New York Times columnist David Pogue, who wrote the best-selling “Switching to the Mac.” He’s clearly a Book Person and graciously signed a copy of his book, giving a shout out to Book People Unite.

Everybody who pledges to be a Book Person today will get a chance to win David’s book, plus a RIF bumper sticker.

Take the Book People Unite pledge and declare your belief in the transformative power of books, especially for young minds. Encourage your friends to join the movement too by sharing online. You’ll also get a download of the full Book People Unite track.

The winner of the giveaway will be announced Tuesday.

UPDATE: Congratulations to our winner, Daletta G.! For all of you Book People who haven’t pledged yet, the contest is over but you can still pledge! Just visit www.bookpeopleunite.org. Book People Unite!

Bryan and Ella Foster are the proud parents of Bianca, who is 3, and Roland, just 7-months-old. They are also both serving in the military. Bryan has been deployed four times and Ella twice. Last year, Bryan missed Roland’s birth.

Like any family dealing with separation, the time away can be very difficult. To help shorten the distance, Bryan read three books on DVD for his kids to watch while he was deployed. They never got tired of watching those DVDs. And now, Bianca asks him to read stories every day.
