Reading RainbowTake a look, it’s in a book … it’s on your iPad.

Reading Rainbow is back and back in force. Today the new Reading Rainbow app debuts. The goal: to get kids hooked on reading via the devices many kids are hooked on borrowing from mom and dad.

There app allows kids to interact with a large and growing library of books from leading publishers. It also features new videos of the one and only LeVar Burton diving into the books’ themes more deeply – and some classic videos from the old Reading Rainbow many of us grew up with.

There’s a parent component too, with tools in the works to make it easier for parents to engage with their kids about the books they’re reading.

It’s hard to do an app justice through a blog post. So if you have an iPad, check it out in the App Store for free. You can explore the app and even pick out a book to read.

Once you’re hooked, the subscription is just $9.99 a month.

If you’re paying for HBO for the grownups, here’s the kids’ subscription worth starting. Heck, maybe it’ll get them hooked on reading, writing and one day churning out the next generation’s Game of Thrones. Then they’ll pick up your HBO bill.
