Now that the warm weather is here, it’s a great time to take your little one out to play in the fresh air and sunshine. If you add a stack of books to the mix, you can give your child a brand new adventure – a story picnic for two!
Here’s how it’s done:
A spot of grass beneath a tree is all you’ll need. Spread a blanket. Grab a pile of books from your child’s bookshelf. Hand her a few to carry, and head outside together.
Invite her to lay the books on the blanket and pile them any way she wishes. Talk with your child – and watch with amazement – as she explores her book collection.
A few stuffed animals make great companions for this activity. Teddy bears and dolls are the perfect audience for young readers.
After a while, ask your child to choose a book for you to read aloud.
Take things slow and easy. There’s no need to get through all the books, and it’s fine for her to read the same book several times.
Your child is sure to enjoy taking her books outdoors on a beautiful day. A story picnic is a simple and delightful way to begin falling in love with reading.
